Abstract
This paper presents a comparative study and evaluation of four video codecs – H.264, H.265 (HEVC), VP8, and VP9 – for public transport entertainment systems. The codecs are evaluated in terms of compression efficiency, computational complexity, and perceptual video quality at different bitrates, with attention to the constraints of embedded systems deployed in buses, trains, and similar public transport scenarios. Results provide guidelines for selecting the most appropriate codec for entertainment systems balancing quality, energy consumption, and hardware requirements.
